Our Mission

Our mission is to understand and analyze the ways that geographic communities communicate and promote their physical presence to a potentially global audience through the World Wide Web. To carry out this mission, we actively monitor the rapidly evolving environment of the Web and its influence upon communities’ capacity to attract tourists.

We explore the relationship between the physical identity of a destination and its online identity. We firmly believe that careful and routine scrutiny of a community’s digital identity significantly contributes to a community’s sustainable future as a tourist destination. Awareness among community leaders and stakeholders of how their communities look on the Internet is critical because virtual impressions will likely translate into actual visits to these destinations.
